In Charente-Maritime, there's something for everyone!
Saturday is relaxation day... Take the opportunity to stroll through the streets of La Tremblade where the traditional market takes place. Missed the Saturday market? Don't panic, just head to Rue Foran on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (from 22 June to 7 September) to discover the Marché des saveurs et des créateurs. You'll be able to sample local produce, and even get the chance to take some home with you!
In July and August, there's no need to choose which day you'll spend in search of local produce. Head to Ronce-les-Bains, where you'll find a daily food and artisan market. For night owls, there's a night market in the town centre every Sunday in July and August.
Rochefort is the place where you should go... Its rich historical heritage will win you over with many museums, ramparts, a royal rope factory, and lots of other delights.
If you're staying in La Tremblade, take a trip to the Phare de La Coubre lighthouse: a must-see! Along the way, you'll observe the biodiversity of the Forêt de La Coubre... deer, wild boars, maritime pines and holm oaks. 11,900 acres of pure nature!
Don't forget to visit the Port de Royan.
Put on your flip-flops: you'll find beaches of golden sand less than 2 miles away. Follow the narrow paths to the sand dunes. Pop on your sandals and soak up the sun! If you're feeling more sporty, you can go sailing, kitesurfing or jet skiing!
This region is full of incredible natural areas, which you can explore on foot, by bike, or even on a pony. There are plenty of routes to choose from! Whatever you decide, you'll have a breathtaking view of the ocean or the surrounding countryside! So, where will you go?
When we talk about Charente-Maritime, we can't overlook the isles of Oléron, Ré and Aix. How about a boat trip? Psst, ever heard of Fort Boyard? During the crossing, you can catch a glimpse of the famous Fort, a former maritime fortress that has become the star of the TV programme with the same name.
They won't be bored!
At Zoo de la Palmyre, marvel at over 1600 animals including mammals, birds and reptiles, representing 110 different species!
